Program Overview

Arts & Music

Giving students hands-on experience in arts and music leads to improved success in school. Through musical performances, visiting artists, and teacher professional development, The Ed. Fund provides opportunities for students to expand and enrich their education.

Awards

Each year The Ed. Fund celebrates teachers, staff, and volunteers who are nominated by their peers for their extraordinary contributions to schools and students. Awards honor the efforts of true school leaders who promote best practices in working with students and inspire others to do the same.

Grants

For 28 years, the Mini-Grants and School-Wide Grants program has allowed business and civic organizations to invest directly into our classrooms and schools. These grants have supported innovative educational projects and programs, bringing learning to life in our classrooms for over 10,000 students per year.

Out-of-School Time Initiative (OST)

The Ed. Fund will be collaborating with our community partners to gauge and assess the current out-of-school time (OST) options for West County students. Our goal is to expand sustainable high quality OST programming, with the best practices in youth development, academic improvement, and violence prevention for all students in West Contra Costa Unified School District.

Scholarships

With generous support from various private donors and foundations, The Ed. Fund provides scholarship funds to high school seniors in West County with financial need. We believe everyone deserves the chance to go to college. After 8 years and $736,000 in college scholarships to 215 graduating seniors, we are proud of our continuing investment in the future of West County.

Teacher Ambassador

Teachers from throughout the school district meet once a month during the school year to receive professional development. All teachers are given stipends to attend a conference of their choice, from which they return with information to share with their colleagues. Other topics covered during the professional development sessions are how to raise money for the classroom from individuals, improving students’ literacy skills and culturally responsive pedagogy.

West County College Access Network (WCCAN)

The West County College Access Network is a collaborative of over 25 private and public agencies working in the West Contra Costa Unified School District to ensure college access and success for its students.

Community Events

The Ed. Fund's annual Excellence in Education Banquet is a rare opportunity for the entire West County community to come together in celebration and support of our public schools. Our next event, the 25th Annual Excellence in Education Luncheon, will be on Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Community Partnerships

The Ed. Fund works in partnership with a variety of other organizations in efforts to help children in West County. In addition, The Ed. Fund also serves as fiscal sponsor for agencies working in support of public schools but who don't have 501(c)(3) status.
