By modeling effective recess systems and supporting student leadership, Coach Jamila supports safe, healthy play at King Elementary during recess. Through this type of play and philosophy, Coach Jamila creates a fun, safe and inclusive playground for all. Coach Jamila strives to change the atmosphere of the playground, thus improving the overall school climate and culture. She teaches students to be encouraging leaders.
Coach Jamila also provides professional development to teachers during the recess hour to build the capacity of the staff to encourage students to always do their best and students fit in. These sessions will include modeling positive sporting behavior, how to give effective feedback and words of encouragement, and fostering productive activities for all.
Coach Jamila is a highly trained facilitator and coach. She is a former PlayWorks coach and has supported King Elementary in this role since 2021.
